    Northwards ho!

In 2019 I embarked on an epic cycling tour to the North of England. My favourite band British Sea Power (they dropped the British at some point later) had announced a festival on the coast of Cumbria at Muncaster Castle. I always wanted to see the band on their home turf, but never got the chance up to then. And I always dreamed about their special gigs and festivals they were putting on remote islands, bleak hill tops, libraries and other not so common places.

So in May 2019 I finally took my chances and grabbed a ticket. First plan was to take the train to Ravenglass in Cumberland. But at one point I was wondering if I could cycle all the way from my home town Bonn in the Northrhine Westfalia to the Lake District. I always wanted to go cycle touring in the UK. So I thought this is the hance to have it both: Sea Power and cycling! And to make a propper holiday adventure out of it all I decided to give the Pennine Cycleway a go on my cycling adventures northwards ho in breathtakin scenery…

As you probably have already guessed things didn’t went as planned. But it was a truly breathtaking and memorable journey which I since then have repeated quite a few times.

This is blog tries to (re)capture a bunch of stories of Cycling to Krankenhaus, of meeting Foxes in Daylight, singing songs in storms, crawling English hills and simply getting lost on the moors or taking other wrong turns.

To this day I am still making my way northwards ho. And while still cycling all the way to auld Muncaster Castle and the lovely Krankenhaus Festival, there is even new tales to tell as I progress cross country. Always meeting so many lovely people en route it is time to some of these stories past and future. And if you by chance meet me on the road say hello or buy me a pint.

    Cheers and enjoy!
